(no subject)

I'm tired, but thanks to my nap, not falling-over-asleep yet. I'm in my pajamas. I haven't eaten well today - some cereal, some italian wedding soup, and some popcorn. i haven't had enough to drink either. i expect to wake up feeling thirsty, probably in the middle of the night.

We went to Target, primarily to pick up some things we needed and some things for my grandmother. We got her a boom box and a couple of classical cds, the only ones we could find. My mother was quite the laggard... lingered in every aisle. She got the new special edition Mummy DVD, and I got The Big Lebowski, which is one of my favorite movies ever. I got a strange "stained-glass" lightbulb, and a picture frame with eyes that open and close on the top of it. It is quite the curiousity.

Then I went to the bookstore for soup, which was blah. Little chicken sausage meatball things in it, but it was all they had and I was hungry. Why do I live in a town that closes up at 5PM on weekends? I looked at a fantastico book called retro desserts that had things like swan-shaped creampuffs in it.

i'm waiting for jonathan creek to come on. it's one of those strange dweeby little addictions. i had a friend who watched night court with slavish faith. i have lots of friends who do the same with law and order. i don't get it, but come sunday night you will find me lined up in front of a british mystery show featuring a wisecracking plump young writer girl and her nerdy holmes, who designs magic tricks and is portrayed by a popular stand-up comic. even though i would not be caught dead watching murder, she wrote or matlock (*shudder*).

Why Jonathan Creek?

Because it's a cool show. Caroline Quentin (?) and Whatisname have great chemistry. It's got clever scripts and it's funny. It's got Giles as an Egotistical Jerk of a Master Magician (at least in the first episode). And it's British! Besides, Whatisname is adorable. Caroline Quentin (?) was on Whose line is it anyway? alot. She's very very talented.

they replaced Anthony Stewart Head after the first episode with someone else. Alan Davies is the guy who plays Jonathan, IIRC. Caro Q. was on Men Behaving Badly (now AKA British Men Behaving Badly) too. they're both chock-full o' charm. closest i can come to a good gen-x mystery show. producers don't have a madonna/whore complex with madeline like the x-files producers do with scully, either.

Yeah, Alan Davies. I told you he was doing tv commercials for Abbey National Bank now, right? I saw them when I was in London. They were really goofy and he's so cuuuuuuuuuuute. I really liked Caroline Q's character cuz she was a) a big girl b) not your standard perfect beauty c) not a shrieking dolt d) randy and upfront woman.

I thought that they'd gotten rid of ASH after the first few episodes -- they ran the series here once about 2 years ago and that was it. I miss it. :-/

And Scully fulfilled the Madonna complex last night with her parthenogenesis although at least she finally got to smooch Sparky (and who wouldn't wanna do that).

Oooooops!!!! :-X I can say no more. (Actually, I can't since I sort of listened to it for the first 50 minutes and had no bloody idea what was going on and then just watched the last 10 minutes in case anyone had a Really Tragic Death)

Scully gave birth to a quilted shrimp headed welder with pods though. ;-) (Sorry, that's an OLD Eric Idle joke and no one else ever gets it...)

I love "Big Lebowski" too. Sometimes I can't get the theme -- "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" -- out of my head.

That movie just grows on you.

Yay, Coen Brothers! I just lurve John Goodman in that film and of course Jeff Bridges for being not his normally hot n sexy self. The Dude rocks!

the dude is my dad! ;)

(seriously... to those who read this and don't know... my dad is very much like The Dude, only not as lazy, and much more bitter. He even LOOKS a lot like The Dude!)

I wish my dad was that cool. My dad is like Uncle Phil from "Mad About You" but not nearly as fun.

It's very similar to the Humprhy Bogart movie "The Big Sleep" in a lot of ways. Given the name, I think it is an intentional reference.

[identity profile] verbminx.livejournal.com 2001-05-21 11:23 am (UTC)(link)
yeah, i can see that.

I never thought of that, but now that you mention it, I think it very well could be a ref.

the big lebowski

i always lose it and roll on the floor laughing when Walter starts smashing in the car yelling, "THIS is what HAPPENS when you FUCK a STRANGER in the ASS!"

YES! and when those German existentialists start yelling "I FUCK YOU! I FUCK YOU!" while swinging machetes.

God damn that's funny stuff.
