OK, for the people who were interested in what I might find while searching for shareware/freeware library cataloguing tools... I'll tell you where I found things. If you go to download.com (opens in new window) and search on the term "books library", you will find stuff. Also try FileLibrary, the page that contains files beginning with BI and BO, because that has a ton of book organization programs too. Finally [livejournal.com profile] bookfoole recommends the HomeBase program at ABEbooks, and while I haven't tried it yet, I love ABE, so it's definitely worth looking around there for stuff.

I downloaded a few from Download and FileLibrary, but I haven't even unzipped them yet. I'll tell you what I settle on, when I get around to it.

Tonight I almost went to the movies, but instead ended up sitting at Borders with my hair up in these weird little buns, flipping through new knitting books and that new Elizabeth Wurtzel book (I want that and the new Sarah Waters book soooooooo bad, paperback be damned!) - we skipped the movie and came home out of general feelings of slackerhood. I was wearing a red/black/white plaid pleated schoolgirl skirt, a black tshirt with a design in red velvet that looks like a heart made out of flames, tights, tall boots, and my fluffy furry scarf that I knitted. Oh, I also wore little metal skull&crossbone hair pins! hehehe. and got invited to an art opening by an Art School Boy. It was rather chilly tonight, for us: felt like we were touched by just the fingertip of a real winter, so I had to wear a jacket, too.

Um... let's see. My mom bought me a box-o-chocolates for Valentine's day, which I shared with her in the car. She also bought me a dorktastic little LOTR journal, the kind that sits in the palm of your hand, smaller than a mass market paperback. It's blue (favorite color, favorite color) and has Arwen on it. I would not have wanted it, but it's a nice little present... unlike most little journals of that size, it actually stays open flat, and also, it has really pretty decorated blue pages. It's the right size to fit in my purse, etc. So I like it in spite of its inherent geek vibes.

I've been wanting to ask-
What sort of stuff is your scarf made of?

[identity profile] verbminx.livejournal.com 2002-02-15 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
it's made of gedifra micro-chic, which is a ready made mix of two of their other polyamide (nylon silky microfiber) yarns. i forget which ones. one is a plushy chenille that isn't too bulky, the other is an eyelash at least 1/5" long. so it's a fuzzy scarf with a shaggy halo effect from the longer fuzz. mine is black, but i also have the yarn in a citrus green and a soft pink, neither of which i have used yet. 3 balls makes a scarf.

you should also check out Ritratto by Filatura di Crosa, which is amazing... it's this blend of like... a silky thread, a metallic thread, and a soft fine mohair in a variegated strain. or also, plassard versatile is nice, but it's like... that colinette point 5 yarn, i think. thick and thin wick yarn, single ply, bulky, looks hand-painted.

also you were talking about buying a lot of yarn at once? if you give me some time to look around, and you're interested, i know of some online places where you can get bags of yarn at like 10 balls per bag for cheaper than it would be to buy 10 balls on their own. it's still pricey but not as. for instance, i think i paid about 8.50 or so per ball of the micro chic (in a way overpriced midtown manhattan shop, tho). if i had bought it in a bag of 10 i would have saved a total of $20. anyway, that might make it possible for you to pursue that portfolio site you were thinking about.

That would be absolutely lovely. A quantity discount would be a great help in this kind of thing.

So yes, I would certainly be interested in that, if you don't mind spending the time on it. Thanks in advance. :)
