fear & loathing of my hair, & a drive

verbminxJust got home, and boy, am I tired.
We decided to drive down the coast today, & do things as I could handle them. The drive is very strange, since it's mostly right along the beach in a very wealthy area. Beachfront land is expensive and sometimes there isn't much space to build upon because you can't build on the dunes. So people build these strange tall narrow stylized houses with balconies that appear out of nowhere seemingly unsupported, second storeys that are questionably larger than the first, and so on. Then there are houses that would be magnificent if they didn't seem so architecturally confused - like an italianate villa with blank square lines and little embellishment. Once in a while, though, there is some oddity like a house with a stone wall and created hill, or a house with rusticated patches on its fascia.
Tried to go to this bizarre store, but it was closing when we got there, so we went and sat and drank coffee and looked at books somewhere else. I got Einstein's Dreams by Alan Lightman and a book on using sewing machines, finally.
Then we went to dinner at... Cracker Barrel, which I used to loathe, but now they are putting more retro stuff in their stores (rather than just "country"). I got a summer straw hat and handbag with cherries on them, lined in cherry fabric. Not really my thing (which is usually black black black black black or some kneejerk hipster "kawaii"ism), but a tolerable permutation. The moms wants to roadtrip to St Augustine in a few weeks, which is a nice overnight excursion.
While I was waiting to leave this afternoon, I was bored, and unhappy with my hair, and I cut myself new bangs. They are MUCH SHORTER. I wore my hair in pigtails for the first time in almost two years, with my wispy little short bangs and red lipstick and no eyemakeup because of the eye infection. & today I wore for the first time the cute tshirt that T. got me for my birthday, which is also symptomatic of a preoccupation with cherries and funny haircolors and black clothing, as it features a girl who has funny haircolors wearing a dress with cherries, fishnet stockings, and high black shoes.
& somehow it came about that since I need help to put in braided extensions and all my close local friends are guys and my mom is scared to help me, she is now going to pay for me to get long braided extensions. i need to find a braider now... probably a friend of a friend. I'm going to start with a burgundy/blonde/pastel-pink mix.
